The last post left on with Casting, which is arguably the most exciting part of check-in day.
Emily, Deena (roommates), Amanda (new-found friend), and I took the bus over to the Casting building, which is directly across the street from Downtown Disney. The bus ride was fun because first of all, it was air conditioned, and secondly a Cast Member gave us an entertaining overview of what was to come.
When we got to Casting we couldn't go in right away because they were already at maximum CP capacity. People got off in groups of ten, then five. Emily, Amanda, and two CPs we met from Puerto Rico were the last people off the ten o'clock bus.
The entry doors to Casting have the Doorknob from Alice in Wonderland. Also, some of you may have seen pictures of the circular room that has gold Disney characters on pillars. Except for a short entry hallway/lobby, that room is right when you come in the building. This is also where you find out where you'll be working.
A CM came up to me and asked for my name, then placed a white sticker on the back of my program guide. I'll be working in Magic Kingdom! I could not believe it. The bottom of your sticker also says what specific place you'll be working at. Mine said "Stands West."
Silly me saw the word "west" and immediately thought of Frontierland. I asked the CM if that's where it was and he said yes. Then I thought about it more and realized that I'll be working at food stands, probably outdoors, on whatever they consider the west side of Magic Kingdom to be.
Emily will be working in the Pirates League, which does pirate makeovers in Adventureland. Amanda, who's also QSFB, is at the ABC Commissary in Disney's Hollywood Studio. I'm a little jealous that she'll be working inside. I am not adjusting to this Florida heat.
From there, it was a lot more standing line. You meet with someone about the Disney Look, then get some paperwork that contains your training schedule, go talk to someone about your schedule, then you meet with payroll, and finally you have several sections that concern background checks which ends with fingerprinting.
Then we were done! We had to wait a long time in the heat for the bus to come and then wait more to get on the bus. At the apartment I met a new roommate, Casheena (QSFB). and then went to Olive Garden for lunch. We were absolutely starved since it was 2:00 and we hadn't eaten since 7AM. Our waiter, Marcos, was a DCP alum!
After lunch mom and I went to the Super Target to get more stuff for the room. I was so exhausted I could barely walk. My mom practically had to drag me to the outlet mall to find another pair of professional shoes. I found out that I have three days of professional Disney Look clothes in a row and only brought one pair of black flats. Since I'll be walking in the parks for a few of those, I wanted another pair in a light color. We found one and they're okay.
Back at the apartment we put stuff together and then hung out with Emily's family before going to dinner at Lone Star Steakhouse, which was really good. Finally, mom and I stopped at Walgreens to get a few more things. When I got back to the apartment, I fully planned on going to bed early, but we all stayed up and talked for a bit.
Oh, and our shower was gross. I had to scrub it before I could get in and it still isn't clean enough. The water was cold, too, so not too enjoyable. I slept alright, but the bed creaked whenever I moved. Other than though, the first night wasn't bad!
